The Cancer Prevention and Control program is the transdisciplinary home for more than 40 scientists representing the schools of medicine, humanities and sciences, and nursing. The overall goal of the program is to generate high impact research along the cancer control continuum with an emphasis on eliminating cancer health disparities among vulnerable populations.
To achieve this goal, the program is organized around the following scientific areas:
- Cancer Risk Identification: Identifying the biological, behavioral and social drivers contributing to cancer risk with a focus on the diverse populations within Massey’s catchment area
- Cancer Risk Mitigation and Prevention: Developing and testing individual and community health promotion interventions, improving methods for early detection and screening, and conducting regulatory science studies to inform policy interventions
- Improve Cancer Outcomes: Leading research on cancer symptom burden and comorbid conditions in order to improve the quality of life of cancer patients, long-term survivors and their caregivers
